Shirvani buyout leaves behind tattered SBHE

The State Board of Higher Education bought out Dr. Hamid Shirvani’s contract, sending the controversial administrator packing. Apparently several hundred thousand dollars for this will come out of student’s pockets somewhere, since a measure to allocate funds for the buyout failed in the legislature.

Now the State Board, which is facing down a 2014 referendum on its very existence, must prove that it isn’t a needless, wasteful level of bureaucracy. Disposing nearly $1 million on poor leadership had better be its last bad move.
